Job description

The best products don't just work, they inspire. They feel intuitive and inclusive, but also surprising, delightful and a little bit magical. As an Experience Designer at Above, you'll craft meaningful experiences around interactive physical products and hardware, shaping how people see, touch, hear and feel the things they use every day.

Our Experience Design team sits between Industrial Design, UX and Technology. We bring design and technology together from day one and prototype early and often, so physical products and the connected systems behind them feel like one seamless experience.

You'll work in cross-functional teams with industrial and digital designers, technologists and engineers. Working closely with senior designers, you'll take ownership of defined parts of a project and grow your responsibility over time. Your work will range from designing detailed product interactions to exploring future scenarios and shaping experience visions.

What you will do at above

• Ideate across the whole product experience, from experience visions and product archetypes to interaction paradigms and micro-interactions.

• Explore technology enablers, from what's possible today to what's coming next

• Define how a product communicates its function and behavior

• Prototype early and often, from quick form studies to low-fidelity functional models

• Communicate experiences through engaging storytelling and compelling visualizations

• Synthesize insights from user research into actionable design decisions

What we are looking for

You might be an industrial designer with a focus on user experience, or an interaction designer with a passion for physical products. Either way, we care more about you and how you approach creative challenges than about your formal education. This role suits someone with a few years of professional experience, including recent graduates with a strong portfolio.

• A portfolio that shows bold ideas and strong conceptual thinking

• A holistic, medium-agnostic approach to design challenges, comfortable moving between digital interfaces, physical interactions, and everything in between

• A healthy obsession with aesthetics and exceptional care for details, balanced with a thorough user-centered approach

• Hands-on prototyping skills: you can quickly build low-fidelity prototypes in a range of media, such as Arduino, ProtoPie, Figma, CAD, 3D printing or video

• Curiosity about technology and how it can enable new experiences

• Comfortable working with ambiguity and unknowns, and seeing them as part of the creative process

• The ability to visualize and communicate your ideas clearly

• A humble, positive, collaborative and self-driven attitude, with a genuine desire to learn
