Junior Mechanical Engineer
Become part of our global Mechanical Engineering team, driving positive change for some of the world's most progressive brands.

Above is currently looking for a talented Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team based in our Stockholm studio. This is a permanent full-time role, available from August 2024. We are open to receiving applications from intermediate-level engineers and able to adjust the role accordingly.
Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineer at Above, you will work with multidisciplinary project teams on cutting-edge design & innovation projects for some of the world's most exciting brands.
You will be an integral part of our engineering team, contributing to all stages of product development—from initial concept validation and technical feasibility studies to detailed design, prototyping, and manufacturing implementation. With strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, you will directly impact project success through technical excellence and innovative engineering solutions. You'll drive smaller technical workstreams independently while integrating into larger projects as part of diverse, cross-functional teams—acting as a technical advocate while collaborating closely with industrial designers, strategists, and technology specialists.
Our work spans high-volume consumer products, smart home devices, furniture systems, robotics, future mobility solutions, progressive healthcare devices, sustainable packaging, and emerging technology applications. We create impact across all development phases—from proof-of-concept prototypes to production-ready designs and comprehensive technical documentation.

What we are looking for
We seek candidates with strong technical foundations who demonstrate innovative thinking in mechanical engineering, and believe you possess many of these qualities:
• Education & Experience:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with preferably 1-2 years of professional experience in product development or consulting environments
• Technical Proficiency:
Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred, Fusion 360, Catia, Creo and NX valuable), with experience in 3D modeling, assembly design, and technical documentation
• Engineering Fundamentals:
Solid understanding of mechanics, materials science, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturing (DFM) principles
• Problem-Solving Approach:
Ability to break down complex technical challenges, perform calculations and simulations, and validate solutions through prototyping
• Prototyping & Testing:
Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping methods, testing protocols, and iterative design validation
• Manufacturing Knowledge:
Understanding of production methods including injection molding, machining, 3D printing, and assembly processes
• Collaboration Skills:
Excellent communication abilities to work effectively with designers, clients, and cross-functional teams
• Technical Communication:
Strong ability to visualize and communicate engineering concepts through sketching, diagrams, or presentations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Project Management:
Ability to structure engineering workflows, manage technical deliverables, and meet project timelines
• Consultant Mindset:
Ability to think strategically about client needs, communicate professionally with external stakeholders, and represent Above/Eidra as a trusted technical advisor
• Sustainability Mindset:
Interest in circular design principles, material selection, and environmental impact considerations
• Continuous Learning:
Curiosity about emerging technologies, manufacturing innovations, and industry best practices
Bonus qualifications:
• Experience with simulation software (FEA, CFD)
• Knowledge of electronics integration and mechatronics
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements
• Experience with agile development methodologies
