We are currently looking for accomplished freelance designers across all seniority levels to augment our industrial design discipline going forward. Proximity to our Malmö & Stockholm studios, and/or an ability to work on-site with our teams in a flexible manner are preferable, though we’re equally open to adding global talent to our pool of collaborators.

Job Description

As a Freelance Industrial Designer at Above, you will seamlessly integrate with our diverse project teams to collaborate on a wide range of cutting-edge design & innovation projects for some of the world's most exciting clients. We are looking for creatives with a strong, multi-faceted industrial design skillset that can expertly handle projects within their core domain, and are equally capable of contributing to complex creative asks as part of a wider, cross-functional project constellation while collaborating with adjacent disciplines. Freelance engagements can range from isolated production tasks to focused design sprints to fully embedded long-term project setups. 



Our work is exciting and diverse in nature, spanning high-volume consumer products, smart home devices, furniture, robotics, future mobility experiences, progressive healthcare solutions, packaging and many more. We create impact on all levels and horizons - from category-defining hero products with clear go-to-market intent, to multi-dimensional portfolio strategies and compelling future visions alike.

What we are looking for

We are looking for inspiring portfolios that show a progressive approach to industrial design, and believe you possess many of these qualities: 



• Open to all seniority levels, though we prefer at least 3 - 5 years of relevant professional experience and familiarity with agency workflows

• A well-curated design portfolio showcasing excellent craft, rigorous process, conceptual clarity and refined aesthetic culture 

• Ability to confidently approach diverse, fast-paced project challenges
• Thoughtfulness and clearly articulated creative point of view

• Hands-on design approach with a strong execution focus

• Well-rounded, fluid software toolbox (CAD, AI tools, render visualisation, storytelling etc), paired with an innate ability to produce top-notch results

• Pronounced understanding of materiality & design for manufacturing

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of engaging with diverse cross-functional teams and stakeholders

• Highly dependable, self-directed personality that is equally confident leading work and receptive to feedback + creative direction 

• Care, optimism, attention to detail; positive impact mindset

While we are primarily recruiting for profiles with strong industrial design core competence, we are also open to applications from individuals that extend into adjacent disciplines such as CMF, Hardware UX or CGI. Let’s talk!
